La Cueva (The Cave) is a safe and vibrant refuge for creative women in our community, offering a space where they can learn, express themselves, and connect through art. Inspired by the desire to unite women from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, La Cueva uses art as a tool for healing and connection. In our fast-paced world, we often forget to take time for ourselves, relegating our passions and dreams to the back burner. Many of us face traumas and feel isolated, and La Cueva aims to change that by providing a place to share our stories and build meaningful connections.
My childhood in Guatemala, accompanying my mother to sewing classes at an Art and Culture school while my sister and I took Flamenco dance classes, showed me the power of art to build communities and offer refuge. There, I saw how the connections between participants enriched their lives and how art helped them escape from their daily routines. These formative experiences fueled my passion for art and my desire to create similar spaces here.
In Boston, I’ve noticed the lack of dedicated spaces where women from all backgrounds can express themselves artistically, especially in their own language. That’s why La Cueva will offer workshops in both English and Spanish, with the option of including translators to ensure that art truly is a universal language.
This year, La Cueva will be part of Greenway in East Boston, offering a series of 4 free workshops at the park of Gove Street and Orleans Street, from 4pm to 7pm in September and October. Each workshop will be led by experienced artists in various fields, including ceramics, leatherwork, sewing, painting, and poetry. The schedule and duration of the workshops will vary according to the instructor’s curriculum.
This project will greatly benefit the East Boston community, providing talented women with the opportunity to grow and share their creativity. Join us and be part of this exciting initiative!

Un espacio de arte para mujeres
En Mary Ellen Welch Greenway
La Cueva es un refugio seguro y vibrante para mujeres creativas en nuestra comunidad, ofreciendo un espacio donde pueden aprender, expresarse y conectar a través del arte. Inspirada por el deseo de unir a mujeres de diversos orígenes culturales y económicos, La Cueva utiliza el arte como una herramienta para la sanación y la conexión. En un mundo tan acelerado, a menudo olvidamos tomarnos tiempo para nosotras mismas, relegando nuestras pasiones y sueños. Muchas de nosotras enfrentamos traumas y nos sentimos solas, y La Cueva busca cambiar eso al ofrecer un lugar para compartir nuestras historias y construir conexiones significativas.
Mi infancia en Guatemala, acompañando a mi madre a clases de costura en una escuela de Arte y Cultura, mientras mi hermana y yo tomábamos clases de baile Flamenco, me mostró el poder del arte para crear comunidades y ofrecer refugio. Allí, vi cómo las conexiones entre las participantes enriquecían sus vidas y cómo el arte las ayudaba a escapar de la rutina diaria. Estas experiencias formativas alimentaron mi pasión por el arte y mi deseo de crear espacios similares aquí.
En Boston, he notado la falta de espacios dedicados para que mujeres de todos los orígenes puedan expresarse artísticamente, especialmente en su propio idioma. Por eso, La Cueva ofrecerá talleres en inglés y español, con la opción de incluir traductores para asegurar que el arte sea verdaderamente un lenguaje universal.
Este año, La Cueva será parte de Greenway en East Boston, ofreciendo una serie de 4 talleres gratuitos en Gove Street y Orleans Street, de 4 PM a 7 PM en septiembre y octubre. Cada taller será dirigido por artistas con experiencia en diversos campos, como cerámica, trabajo en cuero, costura, pintura y poesía. Los horarios y la duración de los talleres varían según el currículo del instructor.
Este proyecto beneficiará enormemente a la comunidad de East Boston, brindando a mujeres talentosas la oportunidad de crecer y compartir su creatividad. ¡Únete a nosotros y sé parte de esta emocionante iniciativa!
